Pokemon Go may have launched in 2016 however Niantic’s mobile take on the long-running series was more popular in 2018 than it was in 2017 if its income is any sign. According to research company Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go income hit $795 million in 2018 versus the $7. This made sure the video game made 35 percent more money in 2018 versus its 2017 incomes. In December 2018 alone, player spending on the App Store and Google Play exceed $75 million versus the $57.2 million that was invested in December 2017. Pokemon Go averaged almost $2.2 million daily in 2018 compared to the $1.6 million in 2017 Sensor Tower claims.
” Players in the United States spent one of the most in Pokemon Go last year, to the tune of $262 million or 33 percent of all gross earnings– the same portion they contributed in 2017,” a post from Sensor Tower’s Randy Nelson reads. “Japanese gamers, by comparison, spent about $239 million, or 30 percent of the video game’s earnings in 2018, up from the 25 percent they contributed in 2017.”
What’s more is, Nelson hypothesizes that if Niantic continue pursuing the exact same cadence of updates and content added to the game, it could make even more, maybe surpassing $3 billion in lifetime revenue in 2019.
Previously, Sensor Tower claimed that Pokemon Go’s September 2018 income figure of $84.8 million puts it ahead of the similarity Candy Crush Saga, which earned $76 million.
Back in June, research firm SuperData said that Pokemon Go generated $104 million which its player base was at its greatest because launch in 2016. Provided the developer Niantic and platform owners Apple and Google do not share numbers themselves, it’s uncertain which of the 2 reports is closer to the reality. For the latest tech news follow EPICdigest on Instagram, Facebook, or Apple News.
