Nubia’s New Wearable Smart Device Flexible Watch, Is It Worth It?

At the IFA 2018 and then at the Mobile World Congress 2019, Nubia showcased its brand-new smartwatch called Alpha, that featured a collapsible panel and gesture control. This smartphone is now ready to strike the shelves.

According to a report by GSMArena, on 8 April, Nubia will be formally revealing the Nubia Alpha smartwatch in China. This news originates from a teaser that Nubia shared on Weibo. While the poster remains in Mandarin, the Alpha symbol on it practically speaks for itself.

The Nubia Alpha is pretty much a full-fledged smart device around your wrist. It lets you put calls and address them, track your heart beat, take photos and videos, and do every daily task that you do on your mobile phone.

The smart wearable sports a 4-inch versatile OLED display with a resolution of 960 x 192 pixels. Nubia declares that the smartwatch has 230 per cent additional screen real estate than the standard smartwatches. According to the company, the Nubia Alpha can endure being bent 10,000 times which it is water resistant.

It is powered by a Snapdragon Use 210 processor. The Nubia Alpha smartwatch includes 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of onboard storage. It brings a 500 mAh battery which is rated to provide up to 2 days of standby time. The smartwatch has an electronic camera too that houses a 5 MP 82-degree wide-angle sensor. It straps on like a bracelet and features two knobs on the ideal edge for navigation.

A fascinating feature on the Nubia Alpha smartwatch is gesture control that allows users to scroll up and down or swipe left and right by simply waving a finger over the device. The smartwatch has a T9 alphanumeric dialer for typing text. It works on Nubia’s custom Android-based OS that assists movement gesture and enables scrolling through the smartwatch’s necessary info.
